The team at Aiducation International was very pleased to organize and plan the third Corporate Career Academy and the first Career Fair at Strathmore University co-funded by Swiss Re. The Aiducation Umbrella office in Switzerland flew in Florian Kapitza and Cynthia Brauchli to Nairobi, Kenya to work with a dedicated Kenyan team including the Aiducation Kenya CEO Jeremiah Kambi, Academy Manager Michelle Masha and Corporate Manager George Jilani. Swiss Re flew in 6 mentors from Swiss Re offices all over the world and was yet again hosted by the delightful Monika Waber from the Zurich Head Office.
The Swiss Re Corporate Career Academies are one-week long workshops during which Aiducation Alumni supported by Swiss Re Managers and local entrepreneurs gain insights, training and exposure on best CV writing practices, handling the job interview process, job search and core professional soft skills. The main goal of this week is to equip students with the tools, methods and practice to apply successfully for a corporate job and to share all relevant aspects of the recruiting process for a corporate career.
The program of this Academy is built on two main phases. The first two days focus on ‘Self- reflection’. Here Aiducation Alumni reflect on their own personality, skills and possible careers which suit their qualities and ambitions. To learn more about their own personality the MBTI assessment isa great tool that provides a constructive, flexible and liberating framework for understanding individual differences and strengths. It identifies personality type, made up of four basic preferences, and provides a positive framework to explain how we interact with the world and each other. Aiducation is very lucky to have The Myers-Briggs Company as one of our partners that is generously willing to support our Corporate Career Academies with MBTI assessments for every single participant.
The second part of the Academy, day 3 to day 5, focuses on preparing and ‘practicing the job application process’. During those days the Aiducation Alumni work on their CV’s & Cover Letters, they learn how to find jobs and how to behave during a job interview.
This year’s third edition of the Corporate Career Academy brought together around 35 Aiducation Alumni and it was wonderful yet again to watch the Academy offer a great platform for amazing intercultural exchange and for both students and mentors to push each other out of their comfort zones.
The highlight of this year’s Corporate Career Academy in Kenya was a Career Fair on the final day of the Academy, Friday 23rd 2018. This Career Fair brought together 25 top Kenyan employers to meet and interact with more than 200 students from both Aiducation International and Strathmore University. These partner companies included Siemens, Panalpina Co, BDO East Africa, Kenya Airways, Ringier East Africa, Brighter Monday, Cheki, Buy Rent Kenya, Can Language Translators, Edukans, Miti Alliance, Technet Kenya, Sephrin Art, Damauga Products, Dangzerina Enterprises and Kenya Commercial Bank among many others. Our great partner in Kenya Strathmore University offered their beautiful auditorium as a venue for our first ever career fair.
The design of the career fair was simple. There were 25 branded stands for partner companies in the very spacious auditorium. Students rotated in all stands of their interest for close to 3hrs interacting with both personnel and recruiters from those companies to try and hopefully secure interviews and further jobs or internships. Alongside the 25 stands in the auditorium were 4 workshops running in a separate room. The workshops were a great opportunity for the students to get to know more about the partner companies and individually present themselves for opportunities.
In the afternoon of the career fair, Aiducation invited all personnel from attending partner companies to join us in a networking apero within the same venue to meet each other and hopefully find ways to work together amongst themselves in the future.
There was eventually really great feedback from Swiss Re mentors, Partner Companies and all attending students for both the Corporate Career Academy and Career Fair at Strathmore University.
The team at Aiducation International thanks everyone that helped to make this important event a huge success. We also want to wish all those really great students aspiring to start their lives in the job market all the best in their future endeavors!
